FIT counts at corehead cabin

09.07.2025

For this activity we performed FIT Counts (Flower-Insect Timed Count) set off to Corehead meadow to perform the data collection. FIT Counts involve marking out a 50cm^2^ area with a piece of string or similar and counting how many insect enter that area to feed over a period of 10 minutes. The insects and flowers are catagorised and we only collect data for the relevant species. Kate O'Leary from the "pollinators along the tweed" project taught us how to perform the data collection and gave us some pointers on how to identify the different plants and insects that we would encounter during the session.
