Planting at Corehead

29.04.2026

We planted on 2 sites today. It is considered late in the season for regular tree planting since most species buds have already opened but there was a stock of trees that needed to be used up so we decided to get them in.

At the first location, near the cabin, the soil was completely bare following the storage of felled plantation trees there. This made for some rapid planting since no screefing was required. It was an absolutely baking hot day for April and the ground was already very dry.

The second location was adjacent to the carpark. There was a mixture of dry and wet land here and so I planted Geulder Rose in the wettest parts and reserved the Hazel and Elder for the drier sections.

It will be interesting to see how the trees planted today fare given the lateness of their planting and the very dry conditions. Luckily they are situated right at access to the cabin and adjacent to the carpark so they will be frequently visited spots!
