Tree planting at Talla craig

19.04.2026

The day started with quite a delay again due to some late arrivals but otherwise we had a very productive day with warm and dry conditions.
I started the morning planting down by the burn where I placed some Willow and Alder. The terrain was very varied by the burn.
In places the bank was very high giving rise to seems of tussocky grass.
Elsewhere there was a lower bank with sandy soil. I peppered trees throughout trying to avoid the areas of moss.
In the afternoon I learned that unlike sphagnum moss, areas of "hair" moss is actually fine to plant in and makes for very easy screefing.
I target my attention to a drier section of this hair moss containing soil to plant oaks and Hawthorns.
By the end of the day we had planted all trees left at the site in the planting cache.
Will be a smashing spot to re-visit and see how well the trees fair here - hopefully the vole guards do their job!
